ATI Curriculum and Faculty Consultation Services

ATI has an entire team or nursing consultants that are dedicated to helping your school achieve its goals. We understand the challenges related to faculty shortages and the training for new educators. Our consultation services team is comprised of highly experienced nurse educators who possess teaching, curriculum development and administrative expertise. They are ready to partner with you to assess, determine and attain goals for your program that reflect current practice and initiatives.

Curriculum Consultation Services include:

  • Updating curricula to reflect current initiatives
  • Developing creative contemporary curricula for concept based and traditional programs
  • Mapping concepts, outcomes, competencies and content/exemplars across curricula
  • Creating a Systematic Evaluation Plan (SEP) that supports insightful program evaluation and successful accreditation efforts
  • Establishing program evaluation tools and benchmarks/expected level of achievement
  • Preparing programs for successful visits by the state boards of nursing, department of education and accrediting bodies
  • Developing clinical assessment tools and evaluation rubrics

Faculty Consultation Services include:

  • Providing faculty development on the curriculum development/revision process
  • Helping faculty move from a teaching paradigm to a learning paradigm
  • Coaching faculty on active instructional strategies that support deep, context based/conceptual learning
  • Guiding changes in clinical that support situated learning, clinical reasoning and effective use of technology
  • Item writing and development of test blueprint
  • Using research findings to guide evidence based practice

Just as every student is unique, so is every nursing program. The amount and timing of consultation services are individualized to meet the needs of your program. How we get together is also flexible. Our consultant can facilitate the consultation in person or online. Our goal is to develop and implement a plan that works best for you.

A standard consultation includes:

  • Pre-visit analysis of program needs
  • Development and approval of consultation agenda
  • Program consultation
  • Written summary of consultation with recommendations
  • Copies of all documents developed

Meet Our Team

Sheryl Sommer, PhD, RN, CNE (Vice President Nursing Education & Strategy)

Dr. Sommer is the Vice President of Nursing Education & Strategy at ATI Nursing Education. She has been a nurse educator for 30 years, and has taught in every type of program, from practical nursing to graduate programs. Nursing programs across the country leverage her deep experience as an educator to bring a critical eye to their curriculum, instruction, and evaluation strategies. She has experience as an item writer for the NCLEX-RN exam, serves on the Editorial board for the Journal of Nursing Education, and is a reviewer for Teaching and Learning in Nursing.

Dr. Sommer’s interest in nursing education includes improving students’ clinical reasoning, increasing student retention, creating comprehensive NCLEX success programs, and numerous topics related to faculty development.

Dr. Sommer earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Nebraska, and her PhD in Education Psychology from Loyola University of Chicago.

Karin K Roberts, PhD, RN, CNE (Manager of Nursing Education & Curriculum)

Dr. Karin Roberts has more than 30 years of experience in nursing education. She began her career in nursing education as an instructor at Research School of Nursing and actively participated in their transition from a diploma program to a baccalaureate and graduate program, and later served as Director of their Accelerated Program for Second Degree students. Dr. Roberts remains an adjunct professor at Research College of Nursing, teaching online graduate courses in the nurse educator track. She also serves as a CCNE Accreditation Site Visitor and is a Certified Nurse Educator.

Dr. Roberts has extensive expertise in instructional strategies, curriculum and program development, and online education. She excels at supporting schools transitioning to a concept-based curriculum, as guiding the development of program evaluation plans and tools that prepare programs for state board review and accreditation.

She earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Nursing and a PhD in Education, all from the University of Kansas.
